AI for Business Series: Foundations

AI isn't magic- it's tools, data, and instructions working together. This introductory session launches our year-long AI for Business series and is designed to help business owners understand what AI actually is, how today's tools work, and how to begin using them with purpose and confidence.

Led by Bob Johnson, a local business owner and developer who actively uses AI in his operations, this class focuses on practical use cases- not hype.

In This Session, You'll Learn

  • What AI and machine learning really are (without the jargon)
  • How tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Microsoft Copilot differ
  • How to write effective prompts using intent, structure, and constraints
  • How to use AI as a "brilliant intern" through iteration and refinement
  • How to avoid common mistakes that limit results
You'll Leave With
  • A clear understanding of AI tools and terminology
  • A simple framework for prompting and ongoing use
  • A starting roadmap for integrating AI into your business
  • One real way to use AI immediately
The session will be followed by 20-30 minutes of casual networking and conversation, giving participants time to connect, ask questions, and share ideas with fellow business owners.

No technical background required- just curiosity and a willingness to try. This foundational class sets the stage for deeper, monthly sessions throughout the year.
